Teeth Whitening in Sherman, TX - Zoom!™

Do you wish you had whiter teeth? White teeth are associated with health, happiness, and success. With that said, perhaps not surprising to learn that tooth whitening is the single most popular cosmetic dental procedure in the world today.

There are hundreds of different products on the market that claim to have the ability to improve the whiteness of your teeth. However, in-office whitening has been proven to have far superior and longer-lasting results compared to any over-the-counter alternatives.

Dr. Sam and our team are pleased to be able to offer exceptional teeth whitening using the popular Philips Zoom!™ system.

What is Philips Zoom!™?

The Zoom!™ system is a fast, effective way of improving the color of your teeth, using bleaching gel with a special curing light to penetrate the teeth and break up stains and discoloration.

Why do teeth become discolored?

Tooth discoloration is an almost inevitable fact of life. This is because the enamel and dentin in our teeth naturally darken as we get older. Lifestyle choices can also contribute to staining and discoloration of our teeth, such as smoking and choosing to consume tannin-rich products such as coffee and red wine.

Am I a suitable candidate for Zoom!™ whitening?

As with all dental procedures, it will be necessary for you to attend a consultation to determine if you are a suitable candidate for Zoom!™ whitening. During your consultation, we will conduct a comprehensive examination of your teeth and gums to ensure that there are no dental concerns that should be addressed, before your whitening procedure.

Zoom!™ Teeth Whitening

The Zoom!™ process usually takes less than an hour, but we recommend that you schedule a professional clean before your procedure in order to achieve an even, consistent result.

The bleaching process is straightforward. The preparation begins with a short preparation to cover the lips and gums so that they don’t become irritated by the whitening agent. This leaves the teeth fully exposed so that the Zoom!™ hydrogen peroxide whitening gel can be applied.

The gel remains on your teeth for around 15 minutes, during which time the Zoom!™ light activates the reaction that causes stains and discoloration to break down. During this time, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin to bleach the stained substances while leaving the structure of the tooth unchanged.

The gel is applied three times, each for 15 minutes of time under the Zoom!™ light, meaning that in total your treatment time is around 45 minutes. Once the process is complete, we will apply a sensitivity-reducing fluoride solution to your teeth.

Side Effects of Zoom!™ whitening

As with all whitening procedures, tooth sensitivity can be a common side effect. Teeth whitening is not recommended for patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you have any other concerns about side effects from Zoom!™ whitening, Dr. Sam will be happy to discuss these with you at your appointment.
