What are the Benefits of Veneers?

Veneers are designed to look just like natural teeth. They are made from thin shells of either porcelain or resin composite that are created in the shade needed to match your existing teeth, enabling them to blend in seamlessly with them and look completely natural.

Veneers can be used to cover a variety of issues

Veneers are extremely versatile in that they can address a multitude of different cosmetic issues relating to your teeth. Some of these include the following:

  • Covering minor imperfections such as chips and superficial cracks
  • Hiding stains and discoloration
  • Closing gaps between the teeth
  • To add thickness to teeth that are unnaturally thin or set back from others in the arch, ensuring that you have a more uniform appearance across the breadth of your smile
  • To add height to undersized teeth
  • To improve the overall color of your teeth

The veneer application process is minimally invasive and simple

The application process is fairly straightforward and takes place over two visits. The first is used to prepare your natural teeth, which involves filing down a little of the natural enamel so that the veneers can fit over the top. Impressions are then sent away for your veneers to be created. On your second visit, the fit of the veneers will be checked, and they will be applied to the teeth, polished and the treatment is complete.

Veneers strengthen your natural teeth

They may look very thin and fragile, but veneers reinforce your natural enamel and create an additional layer of protection for the underlying tooth.

Veneers are largely resistant to staining

It is normal for our natural teeth to become discolored or even stained over time, and this is primarily due to something called tannins which are found in our foods and drinks. Fortunately, veneers have been proven to be resistant to staining, which will help you to retain a more attractive smile for longer.

Durable and long-lasting

Again, despite their fragile appearance, veneers are very durable provided that they are properly cared for. This means not using your teeth as tools and not grinding them when you sleep. However, with the proper care and attention, your veneers could last as long as 10 years before they need to be updated.
