CT Scan
The i-CAT, otherwise known as Computed Tomography (CT scan or CAT scan), is 3-dimensional (3D) imaging used in hospitals to provide more detailed information on head injuries, stroke, brain tumors and other brain functions. The image clearly shows bone, soft tissue, nerves, blood vessels and other vital organs. Revolutionizing this technology for dentistry is an exponential advancement for this industry.
Being able to diagnose, treatment plan and perform surgery using 3-dimentional images elevates the accuracy and predictability of the outcome over regular dental film and digital radiography which are only 2-dimentional images. The margin of error is decreased from 7.5mm with 2-dimentional x-rays to 0.2mm with CT imaging! If you can imagine that the average space between two tooth roots or between a tooth root and a vital nerve is 2mm; decreasing the average margin of error by 7.3mm is a HUGE significance when placing dental implants. This technology is the standard of care for bone grafting and placing dental implants. Being one of less than a handful of surgeons in Texas with this technology in my office; I am excited to offer this service to my patients at a fraction of the cost of hospitals and imaging centers!
Dental implants and oral cosmetic surgery have grown leaps and bounds over the past decade. Continuing education courses have never been more vital to a practice that desires to remain current in the most recent dental products and technology geared toward patient comfort, convenience and tendency toward less invasive surgical procedures. Further, CT imaging has created the next paradigm shift in the dental industry and I am thrilled to be a fore-runner and bring this technology to Grayson County.
