All-on-4 dental implants have recently made a big impact in the world of dentistry. All-on-4 procedures have dramatically shortened the sometimes lengthy dental implants process, and, they have made implantation less invasive.

To explain a little further, All-on-4 is a rapid dental implants solution which secures fixed dentures in position utilizing just four titanium dental implants in the jaw. Compared to the older, standard dental implants process, All-on-4 does away with more than half the required dental implants plus eliminates the delays usually required for healing time.

For many patients All-on-4 is the correct approach, and, its benefits are easily seen. There are some potential drawbacks however, and as with any medical procedure, these should be carefully balanced against the expected benefits.

All-on-4 Dental Implants – The Benefits as We See Them:

  • We’ll make fewer incisions in your mouth;
  • Bone grafts and nerve trans-positioning will be eliminated;
  • You will recover much faster;
  • Your dental prosthesis will be fixed in place;
  • You’ll have immediate function;
  • The cost will be lower.

Potential Drawbacks to using All-on-4 Dental Implants

Should a single one of the All-in-4 dental implants under-perform, your entire restoration will be for naught and must be re-done with more conventional methods.

If bone loss within the patient’s mouth is very significant the All-in-4 technique becomes difficult-to-impossible to successfully complete – a more conventional dental implants approaches must be used.

The All-on-4 dental implantation itself may accelerate atrophy at the rear of the jaw.

Jaw atrophy is just one reason that each candidate for this surgery must be carefully evaluated to be certain it is appropriate for them. Other contraindications to using All-on-4 are:

  • limited space in the patient’s mouth,
  • being significantly overweight,
  • Younger or larger-framed individuals should use conventional implant approaches to insure long-term success.
  • All-in-4 is less successful for those who smoke or have periodontal disease.
